This kid is 4 years old?

A typical mother-daughter conversation:

Catherine: "Mom, there was a lady who pushed her car into the lake."

Lorraine: "Why did she do that?"

Catherine: "Because she was tired of gas prices."

Why You Should Be Careful About What You Say When In The Presence Of A Four-Year-Old

I think Catherine has a future as a product endorser.

Catherine (to Lorraine) right before going to bed: "If you have allergies, take Symbicort. Just ask your doctor first."

Catherine (to me) as I surfed the net for online insurance quotes: "You should call 1-800-State Farm."

Abangan ang susunod na kabanata...(i.e. "Stay tuned")

Ok, ok, I know I haven't posted for ages. But, I am a procrastinator, right? I have about a half a dozen unpublished drafts gathering dust...within the next two weeks, they should see the light (or not...)

But just to get you all caught up, I arrived in San Francisco June 29, and have spent the past six weeks trying to acclimatize to the perfect weather (it's been sunny and breezy every day since I got here) and all these beautiful people....

I begin work next week at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield. I'll be teaching Scripture and Morality and the Social Teaching of the the Catholic Church to 10th and 11th graders. I'll also be moderating the Human Life Issues club. The student body is almost exclusively Anglo and affluent. Gay marriage is the big issue over here, so the coming year should be interesting.

Tomorrow, I head up to Trumbull Manor in Novato for my workshop/seminar. I'll be driving my new wheels (midnight blue 2008 Hyundai Elantra). I LOVE it and try not to think that it's going to take me almost 5 years to pay for it. But this is California--if you don't have a car, you don't have a life.

I'm squatting at Mark, Lorraine, and Catherine's place in lovely suburban San Mateo. Catherine is a 4-year-old bundle of joy! A typical conversation:

Margaret (to Catherine, who is squirming during mass): "Catherine- when you're bored, you can talk to Jesus- you can talk to him with your mind. Isn't that AMAZING?"

Catherine: (wide-eyed) "That's amazing! I can talk with him with my mind..?" (significant pause) "But you know what's really amazing?"

Margaret: "What?"

Catherine: "The gym NEVER closes!"

Hahahahaa. LOL. ROFL. So much for my teaching moment.

(Background: I go to a gym called 24-hour Fitness. She can't get over the strange fact that it's always open. Quite a few people do go and do cardio at 2 am, which I find disturbing...But then, this isn't Steubenville -or Santiago- anymore, Toto...)
